Made much easier now, because of a great little plugin called FG Joomla to WordPress. I actually tried this plugin about a year and half ago only to be disappointed. It was buggy and didn’t work for me, which meant I had to manually move over all my client’s content from Joomla to WordPress. It wasn’t a high content site so not a big deal.
But I’m now working on migrating a rather large Joomla site (400+ pages) into WordPress and manually transferring over 400 pages of content from Joomla to WordPress was not my idea of a good time!
So I gave the plugin another try and was ecstatic when it actually worked. I had all the Joomla content imported into WordPress posts in about 30 seconds. This reduced the labor cost of this project by about $1,000.
This plugin migrates sections, categories, posts, images, medias and tags from Joomla to WordPress, and has been tested with Joomla versions 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and 3.0 and WordPress 3.5.1 on huge databases (72 000+ posts).
The plugin has both free and premium features. The free version worked for me, but I may consider purchasing the premium version as it also redirects Joomla URLs to the new WordPress URLs.
